2016 Winners

Every year the Pre-Raphaelite Society runs a Poetry Prize and the John Pickard Essay Prize. We are delighted to announce the winners for 2016:

The 2016 John Pickard Essay Prize

The Editor is delighted to announce that the John Pickard Essay Prize winner is Julie Whyman, for her essay ‘Four Flowers and a Funeral’.

Second place is Molly Eckel for ‘Travel and Empire in Julia Margaret Cameron’s Botanical Photograms’.

  • First place: Wendy Holborow, ‘The Noble Working Men’

  • Second place: John Gallas, “Frederick Sandys Drawing Clouds”

  • Third place: Tista Austin, ‘After Millais’

  • Poet in Residence’s commendation: John Gallas, ‘John Brett explains to his wife a day out with no drawing’

  • Editor’s commendation: Maria Bennett, ‘et Spiritus’
