New title: James Collinson (aka “The Dormouse”) by Helen D Newman

Untitled-2.jpg

As one of the original members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, James Collinson has been largely dismissed, and if he is mentioned at all it is always in relation to his broken engagement to Christina Rossetti following his re-conversion to Roman Catholicism. And yet it was Dante Gabriel Rossetti who was responsible for inviting him to become a founder member of the Brotherhood, labelling him a “stunner”, largely in opposition to the other members who could never quite understand his enthusiasm for a man they considered rather dull and insipid. Recognition, both as a man and an artist is long overdue, and it is hoped that this book goes some way to restoring his reputation.

Helen Newman is a long standing member of the Pre-Raphaelite Society. Birmingham born, she spent the majority of her working life in insurance. Her main areas of interest are 19th century literature, especially the Brontes, art and history. Outside interests include the church and walking.
